Today.

The elusive Day 30. We did it.

This was, by far, the most challenging Whole30 I (Susan) have ever done. Let me give you a brief rundown:

  1. Trip to NYC for a concert. We went to Bareburger where it is easy to order a Whole30 compliant piece of meat AND get all the nutritional information:IMG_0625.PNG
  2. Friend’s birthday party in New Jersey. You might remember this friend from our last Whole30, when we went to go see Jimmy Fallon and I dragged her to a Paleo restaurant. Anyway- I kept it safe with grilled chicken salad, ordered a half roasted chicken at the bar, and (soberly) totally tore up the dance floor. No but I really did order a half chicken (and steamed kale) at the bar:IMG_1844.jpeg
  3. Breakfast (the morning after) at a place that ONLY SERVES EGGS AND PANCAKES. I went against my egg aversion and ordered eggs with a ton of veggies and it was delightful and- no adverse symptoms!
  4. On my way back to Connecticut from New Jersey, I received a phone call about my mother being hospitalized. Despite only having no clean clothes (including underwear), I headed west instead of north to be with my family. I immediately texted my Whole30 spiritual partner about how this might have to be the first Whole30 I abandoned. Without getting into the nitty gritty details of the week- I pulled myself together and focused on not using food as therapy. I made the best choices I could under the circumstances, bought a food scale, and basically lived out of Wegmans grocery store. That entire week, I never derailed. Did I want to go by the DD drive thru instead of eating grilled chicken for breakfast- yes. Did I crave the pizza in the cafeteria but still ended up insisting that the cashier tell me how much my tuna weighed- absolutely. I had many conversations with myself about priorities and how the easy road would be to completely derail. I stuck to the plan, stuck to my macros, dropped in to gyms (shoutout to Lehigh Valley Barbell!) and stuck with my workout schedule. It was control amongst utter chaos and honestly, I’m proud of myself. #roadtodallas
  5. Busy workweeks, meetings with pastries. The norm.
  6. Baby shower. Cupcakes on sheet cake on cheesy vegetables. Wine on spiked fruit punch. Thankfully, there was one Paleo chicken dish there- Ali and my saving grace.

All in all- I’ve lost a total of 5 pounds. Whether its bloat from eating too many sweets or actual weight, I’m not sure. My skin is clearer, my sleep is on point. Despite being faced with a very, VERY stressful and situation- my head remained clear and focused. I am never disappointed with the outcomes of a Whole30. The program allows me to practice self-control and further learn about myself and the fine balancing act that is health and wellness.

Nothing like a PR on day 30 either. Strict press- 120#

Tomorrow.

The (even more so) elusive Day 31.

Stay tuned.
